A Festival Flower Crown DIY

Angel Elliott

It's festival season folks! Coachella, Broccoli City FestBonnaroo, Lollapalooza, the list goes on. I love to take any opportunity I can to dress up in what wouldn't be normally acceptable in everyday life. So you'll see me decked out for Halloween, Christmas, Easter (yes, Easter) and of course, festivals. The must-have accessory for any dope girl when it comes to festival apparell is a flower crown!

I'm crafty, and love anything customized, so I thought this year instead of buying a generic flower crown that I'd see everyone with at the festivals, I'd make one myself. It was simple enough so, thought I'd share my knowledge with you.

WHAT YOU NEED:

Silk, velvet or whatever faux flowers (I bought mine from Michaels)
Florist wire
Florist tape
Heavy gauge floral wire
Wire cutters
Scissors
Thumb thimble (optional)

STEP 1
Measure the heavy gauge floral wire to fit around your head, leaving about an inch of give. Set that aside.

STEP 2
Once you have your flowers, cut the heads, but include about 2 - 3 inches of stem. Gather the single flowers in bundles of about 3 - 4, then wrap then with the florist wire tightly. You may want to use the thumb thimble here because the florist wire is kind of sharp at the end. Make about 10 - 20 bundles (depending on how big your head is) and set them aside.

STEP 3
Take the little bundles, and wrap them onto the heavy gauge florist wire sideways. Stack them one on top of the other going around the circle until you're at the end of your wire.

STEP 4
Once you're at the end of the wire, re-measure it around your head, and use the florist tape to secure the end of the wire, wrapping it around the ends to connect the two tightly. Take your remaining bundles and place them on top of the closure, wrapping them with the florist wire.

You're done! Happy festival flower crowning!

Louis Vuitton Heads to South Africa

Angel Elliott

See? I told you fashion houses are following the trend of merging their spring campaigns with nature and wildlife. The latest to do so is French fashion house Louis Vuitton. The newly released images of their S/S '14 resort and ready wear collection were shot by photographer Peter Lindbergh, and star Karen Elson and Edie Campbell.

The real star of course was the bucolic landscape of South Africa and the cheetah and giraffe that were used for the shots. I guess they "make" these photographs look Africa-esque. I hope you read my sarcasm in that sentence. The campaign, titled "Spirit of Travel" is actually a nod to Vuitton's collaboration with legendary photographer Jean Larivière. Larivière began shooting for Louis Vuitton in 1978, adding their logo to bucolic landscapes from Greenland to Yemen, Thailand to Nepal.

Check out this dope history of the fashion house on Voguepedia. It would have been dope if they added some diversity in these shots. NOT because she's African in ethnicity, but Lupita Nyong'o would have done these photos JUSTICE honey.

The photos are dope nonetheless. Check them out above!

An Artful Eyegasm: Christian Louboutin’s Painted Spring 2014 Campaign

Angel Elliott

Jesus, I'm about to have an eyegasm. I already have a perpetual love for shoes, but add the impressionist artwork of Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet and Henri Fantin-Latour, and you have created an eye-paradise for me.

That's what photographer Peter Lippmann did for Christian Louboutin's Spring 2014 campaign. He added the coveted red soled masterpieces to literal iconic impressionist works of art, to create a baroque inspired look book for the French fashion house. The vibrantly colored shoes and accessories were artfully placed in paintings of floral scenery. Take a look at the images above!

Need This - Rihanna Rocks Moncler in Aspen

Angel Elliott

Normally, I won't post about who's wearing what and why because simply put, I don't care. :) But when I saw Rih Rih rockin' Moncler, one of my favorite skiwear labels for her Pisces (best sign, clearly) birthday celebration in Aspen, I had to post.

Moncler, founded by French clothier René Ramillon makes luxury down jackets and sporting accessories. During the Barbadian singer's snowy cabin getaway, she wore a Moncler fur trapper hat, down cardigan, and nylon laque and fur gloves, all in mauve.

For my birthday on the 18th of next month, I rented this dope a*s cabin in Shenandoah Valley for 10 of my girls and I. Trust, I'm not jacking Rih's steeze... I've def been rockin' with the woods long before it was cool to do so.

Check out the gallery for more info on the clothes.

Environmental Dopeness: Pharrell & G-Star Announce "RAW for the Oceans"

Angel Elliott

One thing y'all will learn about me, I'm an unabashed, tree-hugging, ocean conservationist. I'm the woman who will mess up her Jordans while cleaning garbage from a stream on World Ocean's Day. I volunteer for Oceana and The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, I don't run water while I brush my teeth or wash the dishes, have a compost bin in my yard waiting for spring, y'all get the picture.

Imagine my excitement when I heard about Pharrell's announced long-term partnership with recycled textiles maker Bionic Yarn and dutch designer clothing company G-Star RAW. Bionic Yarn is a company that makes material (Bionic Yarn) out of recycled plastic PET, plastic litter collected from the world's oceans and waterways. I know you've seen those sad commercials with the little duck stuck in the soda can six-pack rings, or sticking their little beaks in bottles, that's the trash they're referring to.

Pharrell was announced as the creative director of Bionic Yarn in a New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week event held at the Milstein Family Hall of Ocean Life at the American Museum of Natural History. Pharrell, visibly energized by the collaboration said;

Through the collaboration between Bionic Yarn and G-Star, we are making sustainable products more accessible for everyone. By creating yarn from oceans plastic, we are actually moving things forward within the fashion industry. Working with G-Star was an obvious choice, because they have a legacy of pushing the boundaries of fashion and denim forward. Bionic Yarn is a company built around performance, and denim is the perfect category to show the world what Bionic Yarn can do. Everyone has jeans in their closet.

RAW for the Oceans will feature denim made from Bionic Yarn and polyester in an exclusive collection sold in select G-Star RAW stores. Of course Pharrell will leave his creative mark on the jeans, as he's been named co-designer of the line. An added bonus? The jeans can be re-recycled after wear by separating the Bionic Yarn/cotton material with the polyester.

I love when artists and entertainers combine their creativity with a good cause. Ocean conservation is often an overlooked cause in the mainstream, I guess because it lacks "sexy." No one wants to be reminded that their over-use of plastic, conscious littering, and water-wasting-ways are destroying the planet. They certainly don't want to see images of little fauna running around soaked in crude oil.

Maybe more will join me on World Ocean's Day this year since it's now sexy to conserve. The collection is set to release August 15. Hit me!
